SMOM. Between
Exhibition, performances, participatory and somatic practices
SMOM. Between is an event series curated by the SMOM platform, bringing together an exhibition, live and participatory performances, somatic encounters, and a self-empowerment clubbing with pedagogical childcare. Across these different formats, artists explore (m)otherhood, care, memory and the social structures surrounding them from feminist, queer and non-binary perspectives.
The exhibition presents works by mother and daughter Ewa Kaja and Walentina Ammann, alongside video works by Darina Alster, Kateřina Olivová, Tzitzi Barrantes, Marta Bosowska, Vaida Tamoševičiūtė and Guadalupe Aldrete. The programme also includes live performances by Luiza Furtado, Negin Rezaie and Vaida Tamoševičiūtė, a participative performative experience with Mirjana Mustra, a Self-Empowerment Clubbing with Negin Rezaie, Guadalupe Aldrete and Agnes Schneidewind, and pedagogical childcare at mezekere with Nina Sandino. Two Somatic Guided Tours by Guadalupe Aldrete further activate the exhibition through embodied practices and collective reflection.

“Between” becomes a space for connection between different human experiences, memories and inheritances. We carry traces of our own stories and those of our ancestors, often inheriting the weight of intergenerational trauma. Yet, in the present moment, we can decide what we want to carry forward — and what we want to transform.
Through performances, exhibition formats and participatory encounters, SMOM. Between creates spaces for reflection, criticism, solidarity, healing and exchange, inviting us to rethink motherhood as a socially constructed concept and care as a shared responsibility.

CHILDCARE DETAIL INFO:
The child care is intended for children from 3 years old and will accommodate a maximum of 16 children at a time. As the ages of the participating children may vary, activities will remain flexible and adaptable to different ages and needs.
Participation in the “child care” requires prior Anmeldung (registration). This allows us to plan the number of children attending, ensure an appropriate care setting and maintain a safe ratio between children and caregivers. Parents or accompanying adults remain responsible for providing any relevant information about their child’s needs and for being reachable throughout the event.
