Diffractive Dialogues 4

28-29-30 Sept.

at eindorf and Kunsthalle Exnergasse

with Sophia Hörmann, Sarah Sternat, and Asher Ó Gormáin

Ha ha ha ha: rhythms of care

What happens when a practice of sustaining life is recontextualized in an art space? What changes when an act shifts from necessity to intention? Many forms of maintenance, support, and attentiveness unfold unnoticed, woven into everyday rhythms. What do they become once they are made visible? Through which forms can they appear? What rhythms define these practices?

Moved by these and related questions, artists Sophia Hörmann and Sarah Sternat will spend three days sharing their embodied practices, responding to one another, and following the traces that emerge in the encounter. Artist Asher will accompany the process by experimenting with forms of documentation throughout the three days and hold a conclusive practice.

This event is designed for adults. Bringing children is welcome although we can’t offer child care.

Sophia Hörmann is a dance and performance artist based in Vienna. Her current practice unfolds within the four walls of her home, together with her daughter, exploring the body as a space where personal experience, social structures and politics intersect. Working across dance, choreography and performance, she is interested in care, parenthood, intimacy and the everyday. Through embodied research and performative encounters, she creates works that move between the intimate and the political, often questioning established ideas around femininity, labour and relationships.

She has collaborated with artists and companies such as Doris Uhlich, Nature Theater of Oklahoma, and El Conde de Torrefiel. Her latest works are „A Postpartum Island“ (Academy of Fine Arts Vienna), „uncertain grounds“ (Brotfabrik Vienna) and „ECHO“ (Szene Salzburg). http://www.sophiahoermann.com/

Asher Ó Gormáin is an Irish artist working across choreographic and visual art practices as a performance maker, dramaturg, and lecturer. Her work engages closely with objects and materials, drawing out their performative agency to reveal the tactile, sensuous, and existential dimensions of the “ordinary,” challenging anthropocentric perspectives. She holds a BA (Hons) in Choreography from Dartington College of Arts (2005), a Diploma in Dance from SEAD – Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (2008), and an MA with distinction in Visual Arts (TransArts) from the University of Applied Arts Vienna (2021). Since 2021, she has taught regularly at the Angewandte Performance Laboratory (APL) in Vienna. In 2020, she founded HOOD for Artist Parents. Her latest work, mind numbing filthy finger potholes: a glossary of the paradox of boredom, premiered at brut Wien in 2024.
