An exploration of memory, ancestry, and the invisible threads that shape who we are
How do inherited memories move through bodies, landscapes, and materials? What stories live in scars, rituals, silence, and everyday gestures?
GLIMPSES. The Intergenerationality of Identity brings together Louise Deininger, Maria Gomar Vidal, Guadalupe Aldrete, Rafael Lippuner, Paula Flores, Bettina Eigner and Nina Sandino, a group of artists whose works navigate the layered terrain of identity across generations. From performative landscapes and sculptural counter-monuments to sound-based rituals and immersive installations, the project explores the somatic, poetic, and political dimensions of ancestry.
Developed by the curatorial platform Ancestral Synonyms in collaboration with eindorf and KASAL, this year-long program unfolds in a series of solo exhibitions, performances, and conversations. Each artistic position invites us to pause, reflect, and listen – to the whispers of those who came before, and the echoes they leave behind.
Whether working with familial trauma, ancestral wisdom, or the body as archive, the artists in GLIMPSES ask:
What do we carry, what do we transform, and what do we choose to remember?

MORE ABOUT
GLIMPSES: The Intergenerationality of Identity is a multidisciplinary art project taking place from spring to fall 2025 at the eindorf art space in Vienna.
Through seven exhibitions, a discussion and a participatory, performative event, an international group of artists — Maria Amparo Gomar Vidal, Louise Deininger, Bettina Eigner, Paula Flores, Rafael Lippuner, Guadalupe Aldrete, and Nina Sandino — explore themes of identity, memory, and cultural heritage through media such as installations, performances, photography, and video.
The project invites reflection on intergenerational identity, collective memory, and ancestral connections. It creates a space for pluricultural dialogues about heritage and identity, highlighting the interplay between personal and collective histories.
CONCEPT
With the emergence of the human species, the development of traits that define humanity can be traced. Abilities and needs evolved that extend beyond basic survival instincts, fulfilling increasingly complex desires. For some, this marks the birth of what we call the human essence.
The capacity for higher-order thinking is often regarded as a uniquely human trait, although there are also strong arguments for extending such capacities to non-human beings (such as animals, plants, and even objects/subjects). Regardless of one’s position along this continuum, we might all agree that the ability to transmit knowledge, experiences, and perspectives across generations — not only genetically but also through cultural and media-based skills — enables and deepens a sense of belonging and self-identification.
Thus, a cultural memory is formed, one that constantly adapts and expands while also seeking its origins and essentials.
The project GLIMPSES: The Intergenerationality of Identity explores the intergenerational layers of identity through artistic expression, inviting reflection on shared human experience, collective memory, and connections to one’s ancestors. It creates a space for pluricultural dialogue about heritage and identity in Vienna, focusing both on personal and collective identities shaped by shared experiences and generational memory.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The project consists of: seven exhibitions, one participatory-performative event, and a discussion session. Each exhibition invites viewers to engage from multiple perspectives with the intergenerational factors that shape identity.
Participatory elements within some of the exhibitions and the performative event will enable the audience to physically and emotionally immerse themselves in the narratives of the artists, fostering a personal connection to intergenerational identity.
Moreover, the project supports collaborative potential by creating spaces for dialogue among the participating artists, enriching the development of each exhibition. A public discussion session will also provide a platform for the Viennese public to engage in thematic exchanges.
